India Marney is a UK-based photographer who focuses on documenting our connection to the natural world in analogue and digital mediums. With a focus on nature, people and food, India is interested in telling the stories of people who produce food and how they connect with the environment around them. India is passionate about building a relationship and emotional connection with her subjects, to create work that captures the essence of the people or places. Growing up, she spent long summers exploring the English countryside and travelling abroad with her Mother and siblings. This has instilled a curiosity and love of nature and wandering that India tries to emulate through her photography.
When India isn’t taking pictures or cooking, she’s usually swimming in the sea, foraging, at a yoga class, trying new restaurants, playing Uno with her son or deep in a good book.
For the last nine years, alongside her studies, India has worked as a chef, baker, recipe developer, and cookery teacher, which has led to an affinity with good produce and a passion for teaching valuable cooking skills to people who need them. India’s background in fine art and photography has given her a visual language for food styling and plating that’s naturalistic and personal. In addition to her photographic practice, India works as a freelance cook and recipe developer, catering for events and private meals.
